ABOUT THE CARUSOS

 Who We Are

A family growing produce in the Snohomish Valley for local people

Pursuing a dream, Anna and Vince found 10 acres of fallow pasture with a tiny house in 2008 and started clearing blackberries, plowing canary grass and weed-choked fields and building hoop-houses, sheds and a small barn. It took us four years while farming part time to "collect" all of the equipment and specialty farm gear to raise enough vegetables and berries to provide for farmers markets, a CSA and wholesale customers.
All that work has been, and continues to be, worth it. We now have our own children and understand better why we choose to grow produce without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Our mission is to provide healthful food to our local community that is safe and nourishing.

How We Do It

We grow vegetables and berries without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. We practice crop rotation, soil fertility and exclusion to limit pest damage.
Our cultural practices are intended to be regenerative and by building healthy soils we grow healthy food.
We practice dry-land farming methods. Without an irrigation system, we water transplants and seedlings only enough to become established. We rely on floating row cover, shallow cultivation and generous plant spacing to conserve water in the driest months. Although we are able to yield less per acre, the produce we grow is nutrient dense and full of flavor.
